We had an exciting weekend in Langley with our Norkam Junior Boys who were able to play in the Provincial Basketball Tournament! Considering that we only went down with 8 players, 7 of whom could play, we were happy with how hard they worked! They didn't get a lot of rest time and we had a couple of hurt ankles although our boys played through them. We ended up playing 5 teams, 2 games on Wednesday and 1 every day after that and we won 2 and lost 3. But the team had a wonderful banquet, went to the Fun Castle in Abbotsford, swam in the hotel pool every day and pretty much ate all the fries that Red Robin would give them so they sure had fun! I'm especially grateful for their 3 coaches, Mantej, Bryan and George who have spent many hours practising and helping them with their game this year. It was a wonderful basketball season full of memories... Here are some highlights of the 5 games...the Langley Event Centre was fun to take pictures in!

Happy to be able to camp at the North Thompson Provincial Park in Clearwater last weekend for the August long weekend. We were especially grateful for the beautiful weather while setting up! Our last camping trip we were setting up tents in the pouring rain late at night so this was a blessing. Clearwater is well known for its beautiful hikes to falls so we joined our fellow campers in checking them out. It was nice to have our Melodie join us from Castlegar although we missed Kevin who was firefighting. Danielle was able to make it with the little ones although Tim had to work as well! Happy to have our Mitchell who was NOT on crutches this time but quickly rode around camp on his bike! Don and I were thankful to spend some time with family....

Don and I went to see "Frozen" yesterday afternoon and it was such a fun movie to watch! (We realized after we got in that we were the only ones there without a little one….Mitchell wouldn't come, sigh!) I loved the special effects, the animation and the music!! Apparently, the movie crew based much of the snow and ice from what they saw in Norway and they did a wonderful job!!  My girls would love it I know.

Have to admit one of the highlights for me was the little "Mickey Mouse" cartoon "Get a Horse" at the beginning!! From a design perspective it was absolutely amazing. They started out with the original black and white and then added so much depth and originality with colour and depth and sheer fun….it gave you a real sense of how far we have come technology wise in regards to what we can do on screen!! Anyone else see it and love it?

I have been upset all day thinking about not having our Daily News paper anymore!! I love our daily paper and can't believe Glacier Media just shut them down in a week.

My heart goes out to all those people that lost their jobs this week. We delivered that paper for 12 years…..read it, wrote in it, and looked for our kids in it. It has been a part of our life Don and I, for 12 years as we read the news and funnies and did the mixed up word scramble and crosswords together. I've been grateful for the letters of mine that they've printed and the sports stories that I've sent in.

I do read news online occasionally, but nothing will replace the local newspaper in my hands in the morning. I loved the Daily News. I'm in deep mourning today…..

To think that today is the start of a new year, it doesn't seem real sometimes how quickly time passes. I can't say I'm disappointed to leave last year behind….we had some good times and some bad times. It's not a year I would ever do again but I want to focus on what I'm grateful for.

I'm grateful to have started back to TRU and to be learning Digital Art and Design even though it has made me really stretch and I have had to learn to make the most of my time.

I'm grateful that my Danielle and Tim have moved back to town so I can see my grandchildren more often. It has been such fun to see them on a more regular basis.

I'm grateful for this last year with Rebecca who will graduate next year and be off to the University of Lethbridge. I will miss her tremendously.

I'm grateful to have been able to watch my Mitchell play sports this year. He plays with such intensity and spirit, it's always a joy to see his enthusiasm.

I'm grateful for my Don who is always there for me. He has been my foundation and strength this year. I love being able to talk to him about everything and that we have been able to be there for each other always.

I'm grateful for my three married daughters, for Danielle, Melodie and Vanessa and for their husbands. Each of their relationships seem to be filled with love. What a wonder that is and a blessing, that my 3 girls are happy in their marriages.

I'm grateful that I've been able to continue teaching Seminary and for Brother Allen's help so that I've only had to teach 2 days a week. I love learning the gospel and having discussions about what I'm studying and reading about with my Seminary youth.

I love going to church. I love the spirit I feel there, that no matter what I am going through I can feel the calm, the peace and the love of the Saviour there.

I love technology. I love how there is so much out there to learn and am constantly amazed at how quickly the world is changing.

I love photography and the camera class I was able to take this year. I love being able to capture images on film that make me smile and that make my heart happy.

I love reading. Love reading. There is so much to learn, to inspire, to grow and to escape to in reading. From textbooks, to novels, to magazines…I can always be happy with something to read.

I love my home, being able to be rest and relax here. I love spending time with my family here, having meals with them and heartfelt discussions. I've always been able to love being home.

I'm grateful to be an artist and a writer. I hope to continue to develop them both this year.

What will this New Year bring? Hope for a better tomorrow….That there is light at the end of every tunnel, even though you have to look hard sometimes!

Well, it's actually one of my favourite seasons of the year! Basketball season and I say season because with two kids playing we spend a lot of time in the bleachers watching basketball and I love it. Both Rebecca and Mitchell spend a lot of time practising and they play hard. I'm grateful for their coaches who work hard with them. I keep taking pictures and get a few that I like here and there…the lighting is always bad and my camera doesn't have very good indoor sports capabilities. What was exciting tonight was that one of the Daily News photographers was there,  so hopefully they took a good picture of the game. I will try to post it, for now here are a few from Mitchell's games last weekend…I have only been able to see about 10 minutes of Rebecca's but will work on getting some of hers. Next week is the Fulton Cup at TRU and both kids will be playing in that so that should be fun…with way better lighting!!

Well I can't believe that the end of a semester is here! I finished my last class on Friday and am just finishing up my two other projects this weekend. I thought I would post another poster that was an assignment for one of my classes. We were asked to combine image and type to come up with a poster that used Adobe Photoshop in our Graphic Design course.

I was really happy with this one because I was able to use my Melodie's missionary pictures and put them into large type letters. I then used one of our pictures of Macchu Picchu, made it BW and reduced the opacity and placed it behind the letters. Because we were asked to use certain words, I chose the word CULTURE and added some extra words around the letters to represent the differences in culture. I just hope Melodie is as happy as I am with it….I'm looking forward to showing it to her because she will have some good ideas for it!
