CULTURED IMAGE POSTER

Well I can't believe that the end of a semester is here! I finished my last class on Friday and am just finishing up my two other projects this weekend. I thought I would post another poster that was an assignment for one of my classes. We were asked to combine image and type to come up with a poster that used Adobe Photoshop in our Graphic Design course.

 I was really happy with this one because I was able to use my Melodie's missionary pictures and put them into large type letters. I then used one of our pictures of Macchu Picchu, made it BW and reduced the opacity and placed it behind the letters. Because we were asked to use certain words, I chose the word CULTURE and added some extra words around the letters to represent the differences in culture. I just hope Melodie is as happy as I am with it….I'm looking forward to showing it to her because she will have some good ideas for it!

PERU PAINTING

 This was one of my favourite pictures of Don and Melodie that I was able to take when we were visiting Mel in Peru! We had so much fun and were amazed at the beautiful Peruvian architecture. I thought this  watercolour technique would do this picture justice and bring it to life. This brings back wonderful memories of seeing our missionary daughter, Hermana Mathieson for the first time in 18 months...it was an amazing, joyful trip!!

Heading to Peru

Well, it's an exciting day!!! Can't believe it's finally here. Don and I are leaving for Vancouver this afternoon and flying tomorrow to Lima, Peru to pick up our Melodie who has been serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints for the past 18 months. I have misssed her dreadfully though I have been proud and happy with her dedication, hard work and love of what she's doing. I think she will find it hard to leave Peru which is a good thing because it means she has learned to love the people.
We will be visiting and touring her mission for 2 weeks and plan on flying to Cusco and seeing Macchu Picchu. We will be flying home on Friday, November 4 into Kamloops. It will be a fun day with family and friends at the airport to welcome her home! We are leaving Scott and Vanessa here to keep an eye on the house and to be with Rebecca and Mitchell. I plan on taking lots of pictures....surprise, surprise!
We are sooo excited!

Melodie's Mission Year Mark!

Well Melodie has been out a year now on April 6! Frankly, sometimes it has seem like yesterday that she left and sometimes it seems like forever since we have seen her. We still miss her tons but love to get her emails. She sent a few pictures a few weeks ago and I thought I would post them.  The whole time she has been in Peru she has only seen one Canadian...apparently she saw a young man on the street with a Canadian flag on his hat and she was so excited she almost went up and hugged him....luckily she remembered she's a missionary and can't! I think she misses Canada although she is loving Peru!   

We had to laugh at this picture she sent! She told us that pigs are allowed to just roam free all over but we didn't realize how big they were! Mel also mentioned that there are dogs that run free all over and they are always hungry, she feels sorry for them. They must not have a very good spaying system there.

Well here she is having ate guinea pig which apparently they eat regularly in Peru! We had heard that they did but she has never mentioned that she had it for dinner until she sent this picture! Apparently she has also eaten cow intestines which she did not care for much, hmmm wonder why! I'm glad she is so brave! In Peru the missionaries have pensionistas that cook and clean for them, I think it is mainly for health reasons. I know she has had some wonderful women who she is grateful for.

Hearing from Mel

We were so happy to hear from Melodie yesterday! We finally received an email. Apparently her Pdays are on Thursday even though she couldn't write last week. She is working hard, already praying and bearing testimony in Spanish and was asked to give a talk on Sunday( in English which she was grateful for!) . She sounds excited and loves the 5 girls she is rooming with. Apparently four of them are staying in the States while her and her companion Sister Sessions are both going to Peru. She is taking lots of classes and is being teased because of her Canadian accent! I'm guessing she will lose that once she is actually speaking Spanish all the time!  We had to laugh because everyone was amazed at how little luggage she had! Don said she was bringing an orca suitcase and that she had too much stuff and I was sure that she would need at least those two! Grateful that she is receiving our letters thanks to dearelder.com.  Because I am in Calgary right now visiting with Danielle, Don sent her email here to Danielle. She sounds so happy!
